Items to consider in regards to Homeowners Insurance:

Is your home insured to its full rebuilding cost? Additions and alterations to your home could result in the rebuilding cost of your home increasing at a faster pace than the amount listed on your policy for your dwelling.

Are your belongings covered on a replacement cost or actual cash value basis? Replacement cost coverage will allow you to replace damaged belongings at today's prices as long as the items are of like kind and quality. Actual Cash Value coverage takes into account the replacement cost of an item less the depreciated value based on age and wear & tear.

Do you have any personal property that would need to be specifically scheduled? Benefits to scheduling items include more comprehensive loss protection and not being subject to any internal limits on certain classes of property such as: jewelry, guns, silverware, collectibles and hand tools among others.

Are you receiving all the discounts you deserve? Insurance companies will give discounts for multiple polices with them, smoke alarms, certain security systems, fire extinguishers, deadbolt locks and being loss free for a period of time.

Are you using any part of your home or premises for business purposes? Additional coverage may be available to provide protection for business exposures that may not be covered under the standard homeowner policy.

Are there any motorized vehicles on the premises? The homeowner policy restricts coverage for certain types of motorized vehicles. Both for the vehicle itself and for any liability losses. Coverage is usually available under a different policy.

Do I need any additional coverage that does not come standard under the homeowner policy?

  • Sewer & Drain Back Up Coverage
  • Identity Theft Coverage
  • Earthquake Coverage
  • Flood Coverage

Is my deductible set at the right amount? The higher the deductible, the lower your premium.

Do I have enough coverage for the detached structures on my property? The homeowner policy provides 10% of the dwelling limit for detached structures on the premises such as garages, sheds, barns, pools or gazebos.

Should I purchase a Personal Umbrella? A Personal Umbrella policy extends the liability limit a person has available to protect his or her financial assets in the event that their primary liability limits are exhausted or when coverage is not provided.
